Insert HTML into email template

Hello All,

I've an HTML template and most of the content is formated using the WYSIWYG editor in the desinger. However, I also have some dynamic content that I'm adding to this email template via a custom field.  How can I format the dynamic content (bold, red text etc)?  I've tried adding some html tags, and richtext encoding to the text but it doesn't show up.
